Workshop Assistant
Rate - £6.40 - £11.44 per hour (Based on age and experience)


Background

​Silverbox Kids is looking for enthusiastic and reliable individuals with a passion for Visual Arts and creative mediato support the delivery of our engaging workshops for young people aged 8 - 16 years.


Our workshops encourage students to explore and develop skills in:

🎨 Visual Arts | 📚 Comic Book Creation | 🎬 Animation & Storyboarding | 📷 Photography | 🎭 Acting for Camera | 🎵 Sound & Music Design | ✍️ Creative Writing

We run After School Clubs, Weekend Clubs, Holiday Schools, and curriculum-based school projects, providing a fun, safe, and collaborative environment for creative learning.

The Role
​
​As a Workshop Assistant, you will provide hands-on support to ensure workshops run smoothly. This includes helping set up materials, assisting students, reinforcing club rules, and ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.

This role is ideal for creative individuals looking to gain experience in education, youth work, or visual arts facilitation.
​
📌 An Enhanced DBS check and safeguarding training are required (provided by Silverbox).

Responsibilities​
​
Workshop Support & Student Engagement:
​
🎨 Assist students with creative activities across various disciplines.
🎭 Encourage participation and support students in expressing their ideas.
📋 Reinforce club rules and maintain a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere.
🔹 Support behaviour management as directed by the Workshop Leader or Workshop Manager.
📢 Confidently take attendance and help introduce workshop activities.

Technical & Logistical Assistance:
🔧 Help set up and pack down workshop equipment (e.g., cameras, drawing tablets, laptops, sound equipment).
💾 Ensure smooth file management and assist students with saving and transferring digital work.
🛠 Troubleshoot minor technical issues (e.g., software setup, equipment setup).

Safety & Safeguarding:
⚠ Understand and follow risk assessments to ensure a safe environment.
🚦 Reinforce fire and equipment safety procedures.
🛡 Report safeguarding or welfare concerns to the Workshop Manager.

Time & Commitment Management:

⏰ Arrive on time and be prepared for each session.
📅 Keep track of club dates and personal availability.
⚡ Commit to approximately 2 hours per session, typically between 3pm - 6pm.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:
✅ Confidence, punctuality, and reliability.
✅ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
✅ A passion for Visual Arts, Digital Media, or Creative Education.


Desired:
​
🎬 Experience in Visual Arts, Digital Media, Animation, Photography, or Creative Writing (not essential).
🎭 Experience working with young people in an educational or extracurricular setting (desirable).

Hours & Commitment​
​
  • Various, based on active projects.
  • Weekdays: Typically 2 hours between 3pm - 6pm.
  • Additional hours may be required for holiday workshops.
